Epistemic Logic and Questions
نویسنده
چکیده
There are many formal systems in the field of logic of questions. (See nice overviews in [2] and [3].) If we omit pragmatically oriented theories, then there are two known approaches working within erotetic inferential structures: Groenendijk-Stokhof’s intensional approach [1] and the general theory of erotetic inferences proposed by Andrzej Wísniewski [4]. Even if we can meet some other theories of questions based on epistemic logic, they usually do not incorporate inferences within the language extended by questions. Mostly, questions are translated as requests for a completion of knowledge. We would like to present some basic ideas of a non-invasive extension of epistemic logic by questions. Questions play the role of lack of an agent’s knowledge. Moreover, it enables to display a structure of an agent’s ignorance and a change of common knowledge in a group. Simultaneously, inferences among interrogatives and declaratives are incorporated and we can express evocation of question from a set of declaratives or implicationlike relationship between questions.

A Survey of Dynamic Logics
Dynamic logic has created a paradigm shift in logic. In this work, we provide a survey of some major dynamic logics: propositional dynamic logic, game logic, dynamic epistemic logic and logic of questions. The unifying idea behind presenting these logics is to observe how the “dynamic” aspect of the logic is represented in each formalism.
متن کاملReasoning About Knowledge in Philosophy: The Paradigm of Epistemic Logic
Theories of knowledge representation and reasoning about knowledge in philosophy are considered from the vantage point of epistemic logic. This logic is primarily a logic of knowing that, and its semantics can be considered an explication of the well-known idea that "information means elimination of uncertainty". A number of other theories are discussed as further developments of epistemic logi...
متن کاملAn inquisitive dynamic epistemic logic
This paper develops a logic that combines the main features of dynamic epistemic logic with those of inquisitive semantics. We argue that this merge helps both traditions a step further. From the viewpoint of dynamic epistemic logic, the main benefit lies in the fact that inquisitiveness does not only enter the picture at the level of speech acts, but already at the level of semantic content, w...
متن کاملLogic of Questions and Public Announcements
This paper aims to explore the role of questions in communication in a group of cooperative rational agents. Using epistemic representation of questions proposed in [6] we employ the framework of public announcement logic to explore the flow of information in the process of asking and replying questions in a group. We show that some of the erotetic notions we introduce nicely correspond to the ...
متن کاملQuestion – Answer Games ( extended abstract )
I am in the middle of Manhattan and I am lost. I approach a likely stranger on the road and ask him, pointing to the right: “Is this the way to the railway station?” Discounting for a moment the possibility that I will be ignored and that the stranger will continue on his way (of which the—trivial—game move equivalent would be “I prefer not to answer the question”), I will now get one of three ...
